Congratulations to Denny Morrison who placed 2nd and 4th in the 1,000m
Watch for Denny January 28 + 29, 2012 in the World Sprint Championship in Calgary.

Scott Bickerton finished 10th overall with top 10 finishes in the 1,500m; 5,000m and 10,000m. Tori Spence had top 10 finishes in the 500m, 1,500m 3,000m and 5,000m finishing 8th overall in this 4 country event.
Well done.
 
Jessica Hewitt with a 3rd place finish in the 1,000m and a top 10 in the 500m finished 6th overall in this event to determine the Canadian Team to compete at the upcoming World Cups 5 + 6 and the World Championships.

BC skaters earned a total of 13 medals at this joint event.
Highlighting these impressive results was Tori Spence(1st) and Ashley Nelson (3rd) winning the first ever medals in the CSD Mass start event!
In the CSD, Denny Morrison had two 2nd place finishes (1,000m + 1,500m) and Scott Bickerton was 2nd in the 10,000m and 3rd in the 5,000m. Tori had 2 top 10 finishes as did Josie Spence,  Alec Janssens  and Nick Goplen and Ashley with one.
In the Canada Cup, 1st place finishes were achieved by Sarah Pousette (3,000m), Nick Goplen (1,500m) and Josie Spence (1,000m). Alison Banwell 2nd (1,000m) + 3rd (1,500m); Elyce Henry 2nd (1,500m) and 3rd (500m) were the other medallists. Top 10 finishes were also recorded by Jeff Kitura, Alison and Ashley.
Well done skaters!

This event was to choose Canada's team to the World Junior Short Track Championships in Februray 2012 in Melbourne, Australia.
Courtney Shmyr is the Canadian Junior Short Track Champion!!!! Congratulations Courtney.
This was achieved by placing 1st in 500m and Super 1500m, 2nd in the 1500m and 3rd in the 1000m.
Michelle Mackay had a strong showing with top 10 placings in all four distance and finishing 5th overall.
Other top 10 placings: Jamie MacDonald - 500m, 1000m + Super 1500m (9th overall); Jesse Keca - 500m and 1000m(10th overall) and Josie Spence - 1500m + Super 1500m (11th overall).
Well done to all!

Congratulations to Ashley Nelson & Courtney Shmyr who received 2011 Olympic Oval Bursary Awards as selected by a committee headed by two-time Olympic Gold Medallist Catriona LeMay Doan. The award is to help with living and training expenses.
Well done!

Congratulations to Sandi Vyse of the Kamloops Long Blades who was recognized by Coaches BC representing "the tireless contribution you make to athletes and your community."
The award is designed for athletes to recognize the great role coaches play in the community. One of her athletes, in the nomination, said....she helped keep me interested in the sport for more than 10years and become one of the best athletes I can be....

Congratulations to Donna Bilous of the Matsqui Blades on being recognized recently by Special Olympics of BC as being the 2011 Howard Carter Award recipient.

Among her many attributes "that embodies the true spirit of the award" she has coached athletes in both winter and summer sports at the National and World Games and is now Team BC's coach for 2012.

Well done Donna!
